From homes to office blocks, farms to shopping malls, careers in property involve buildings of all sorts. Some jobs focus mainly on buying and selling. Others involve planning construction or renovation projects, or day-to-day operations.
Property careers include:

- chartered surveyors, who do structural surveys of buildings and advise on construction and valuations
- property developers
- property managers
- real estate agents, who may specialise in commercial, industrial, residential or rural properties
- valuers, who may work for banks, insurers or real estate firms.

Training to be a registered valuer
Valuers inspect land and buildings to estimate what these are worth in the current market, based on:
- the property's age, condition, construction, location, and size
- local sales data
- past and current trends in market performance.
Valuers advise people or organisations buying or selling property, or using property to secure a loan. Valuers may also give expert advice to lawyers or investors.
To become a registered valuer, you'll need:
- Bachelor of Agribusiness (Rural Valuation) or Bachelor of Business (Property) with required courses
- three years' work experience supervised by a registered valuer.

Accreditations and rankings
Property Institute of New Zealand (PINZ)
The Bachelor of Business (Property) and Bachelor of Agribusiness (Rural Valuation) are accredited by the Property Institute of New Zealand (PINZ). Suitably qualified students may apply to PINZ to obtain registration in their selected field of expertise. Registration requires the necessary qualifications and at least 3 years practical experience in a selected field of expertise.
Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ)
The Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ) accredits the Bachelor of Business (Property). It represents more than 14,000 real estate professionals nationwide.
Valuers Registration Board (VRB)
Suitably qualified students may apply to the Valuers鈥 Registration Board to obtain registration as a valuer. Registration (recognised as a minimum standard of competence) requires the valuer be 23 years of age, have the necessary qualifications and a minimum 3 years practical valuing experience. Registration is covered in the Valuers Act (1948).
Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
Massey's Bachelor of Construction is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. This global professional body promotes and enforces international standards in the valuation, management and development of land, real estate, construction and infrastructure.
